Canvass – Mike for RentonWednesday 07–165:30 pm – 8:00 pmCanvass – Mike for RentonKiwanis Park, 815 Union Ave NE, Renton, WA 98056, USA
Come canvass for Mike Westgaard’s campaign for Renton City Council! Let’s elect someone who will fight for working people.
Mike is a proud union shop steward and longtime Seattle DSA member – his campaign envisions connecting our chapter to the organized labor movement and the working class struggle in South King County. Mike is a champion for housing and transit for all, ending the war on drugs, and defending Raise the Wage Renton!
Mike is running as a democratic socialist in a grassroots campaign against a Chamber of Commerce backed establishment incumbent – to win he will need OUR HELP! We’ll meet at Kiwanis Park for sign-ins and training, then head out to talk to neighbors about Mike’s campaign.
We will be organizing carpooling options, if you need a carpool please enter the relevant information into the Action Network RSVP form. First time canvassers are welcome. We will provide a training before the canvass. Please check the weather forecast and dress appropriately!

Ballots are out!!! The Seattle DSA-endorsed Mike Westgaard for Renton City Council campaign is getting ready to Get Out The Vote when ballots drop on July 16th for the August 5th primary. In the run-up to the primary, we’ve been running hot with these achievements:
- Securing critical endorsements from MLK Labor Council, IAM 751 (Boeing Machinists), SEIU 925, King County Dems, 5th LD Dems, Transit Riders Union, Tech4Housing, WA Senator Bob Hasegawa, WA Rep. Shaun Scott, and Renton Councilmember Carmen Rivera!
- Reaching the milestone of 10,000 doors knocked – about 25% of all households in Renton!
- Getting over 55 volunteers and over 10 shift leads involved to host over 20 canvasses and tabling days and other events such as a fundraising party and a Community BBQ!
But the fight is just getting started – Mike’s opponent, James Alberson Jr., a former president of the Renton Chamber of Commerce and the incumbent, responded by raising over $20,000, with donors including big businesses such as Amazon, WA Association of Realtors, and Fortune Casino.
The stakes are high – a strong showing in the primary is key for showing voters that Mike is a serious challenger against an Amazon-backed incumbent! To get that result, Mike and Seattle DSA need your help. We’re starting off with a GOTV Kick-Off Canvass on Sat. July 19th, 11AM at Liberty Park. Come show our support for the campaign, build up the energy needed for the rest of the primary, and tell voters to fill out their ballots for Mike! RVSP HERE
First time and returning canvassers are welcome. We will provide training before the canvass. We will also organize carpools, please note your carpool needs in the Action Network RSVP form. Social to follow. Please check the weather forecast and dress appropriately.
